Chris Early
Working from my workshop in the hills around Crieff, and in Edinburgh, I have over twenty years experience making and designing in wood. My projects range from timber buildings, to gates, to cabinets, to small boxes. I welcome and enjoy joinery work such as bespoke windows, doors and fitted furniture, as well as more sculptural work. Often in native grown Scottish hardwoods and softwoods.
I have produced work for organizations such as Historic Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Perth and Kinross Council. and The Woodland Trust, as well as many private individuals.
My inspiration comes from the beautiful natural figure and grain of the native grown hardwoods I use, and the hills, woodland and countryside around Perthshire which I am privileged to live and work in.
I was influenced by my grandfather, a pattern maker, engineer and woodworker: growing up in his workshop, his patience and inspiration sparked the passion that lead me to a life time of learning and exploration in wood.
He conveyed to me the importance of traditional craftsmanship, and that integrity in my work came from a balanced relationship between form and function.
